Profit on paper means nothing if you run out of cash. The Cash Flow tab shows you your actual bank position, your projected inflows and outflows, and how many months of runway you have at current burn.
Shopify Payouts
If you use Shopify Payments, Ecom Forward syncs payouts nightly at 3 AM UTC. Each payout represents an actual bank deposit from Shopify to your business account — already net of chargebacks and payment-processor fees.
This gives you a much cleaner view of cash in than Shopify revenue does, because revenue is the customer-facing top-line (before chargebacks, refunds, platform fees).
Note
read_shopify_payments_payoutsscope. If you get a “Reconnect required” banner, re-authenticate the store from the Stores page.Runway widget
At the top of the tab: your current cash balance, monthly burn rate, and projected runway in months.
- < 3 months — red. Take action now.
- 3-6 months — amber. Plan.
- > 6 months — green.
- Profitable — runway = null, widget says “Profitable — no runway limit.”
Opening cash
Set your current cash balance so the runway calculation has a starting point. Settings → Opening cash.
13-week forecast
A Recharts bar + line chart projects weekly inflows, outflows, and running balance for the next 13 weeks — based on your last 90 days of activity plus recurring expenses (operating expenses, business expenses).
- Green bars — projected inflows.
- Red bars — projected outflows.
- Line — running balance.
If the line crosses zero, you'll run out of cash before that week. Visual runway is often more actionable than the single runway number.
Adding cash entries
For cash movements outside of Shopify Payments (bank transfers, investor wires, contractor payments), add manual entries:
- Click + Add entry in the Cash Flow tab.
- Pick inflow or outflow.
- Pick a category (built-in or custom).
- Enter amount + date + optional note.
- Save.
Manual entries with a source currency different from store currency convert on save using live rates.
Importing a bank or marketplace CSV
Entering cash by hand gets old fast if you sell off Shopify too (bol.com, marketplaces, payroll, a bank export). Click Import CSV in the Cash Entries header and upload the file. Ecom Forward auto-detects the column layout (including European semicolon/comma formats and date orders), shows you a live preview of every parsed row before anything is saved, and skips exact duplicates — so re-importing an overlapping date range is safe.
Tip
Custom categories
Built-in categories cover the common cases. For specialty cash flows, add custom ones:
- Cash Flow tab → Manage categories.
- Click + New category.
- Pick type (inflow / outflow), name, and optional default currency.
- Save.
