Chargebacks & disputes

Track your chargeback count, your rate against the ~1% threshold that can suspend card processing, money at risk, and your win rate.

3 min read

Chargebacks are different from refunds, they're disputes a customer raises with their bank, and they carry a hidden danger: if your chargeback rate climbs past about 1% of orders, card networks can suspend your ability to take payments. The Chargebacks tab (Performance → Chargebacks) keeps that number in front of you.

Where the data comes from

  • Shopify Payments / Shop Pay (built in, free), disputes sync automatically over your existing Shopify connection. If you connected before this feature shipped, click Update permissions on your store once (one click, nothing to re-enter) to grant the disputes permission.
  • Chargeflow (optional), if you use Chargeflow to fight chargebacks across processors (PayPal, Stripe, etc.), paste your Chargeflow API key on the store card to pull cross-processor disputes and real win rates.

What you'll see

  • Chargeback rate, disputes ÷ orders, coloured against the ~1% danger line.
  • Money at risk and your win rate on disputes you've fought.
  • Breakdown by reason and by status (open vs resolved), a feed of individual disputes, and a CSV export.

Alerts & Ford

A new chargeback can email you, and a rising rate is flagged, both controlled under the Chargebacks topic in Ford's alerts. You can also just ask Ford “how's my chargeback rate?”, he reads the same data.

Note

A dashboard Chargebacks tile stays hidden until you have your first chargeback, so it never adds noise to a clean store.
